About Us

Hi, I'm Dan.

There are two routes you can take to web design. The 'art' route, and the 'programmer' route. I started out via the 'art' route. My first personal site was up so I could show off my 3d images and animations and so that I had somewhere to write my odd little thoughts and rants. I made it with Netscape composer and it did the job.

A few versions of that site later and I fell into the employment of long time Townsville resident 'Sandor Kovats'. I credit Sandor with most of my design ethos. He forced me to code the sites I made in raw HTML and if not for him I'd still be pumping out bloated ugly code with Netscape or Dream-weaver.

In late 2004 Sandor offered his flourishing Townsville business to me and I leapt at the chance. In the three intervening years since I had originally worked for Sandor I'd put my spare time into immersing myself in photoshop and boning up on PHP and CSS web design.

Computers can be difficult. They're the most complicated thing that humans have ever created. Filtering information through them can lead to a multicoloured mess. I'm fascinated with finding the most effective way to communicate.

I love the Internet. The ability to find anything you could ever hope to imagine is a power that I find intoxicating. It's a delight that it's my job each day to help people do exactly that.

When I'm not working for Civicnet, I act as Master of Ceremonies for Local Theatre shows. I also illustrate and write educational comics.

Sandor Kovats

,.. used to manage Civicnet. He left to pursue his interest in the church and now works doing web development full-time for 'Youth with a Mission' centres all over the world.

Sandor still helps out as my Townsville Liaison. He attends meetings and proposals and helps out with on site tech support.
